Camping Luna has selected some of the most fascinating areas for you to visit during your holiday in Tuscany in Marina di Massa: the province of Massa Carrara, several nature itineraries and a series of cultural and fine food and wine events for you to join in.
Massa
Its old town centre is only 8 kilometres far from the Campsite in Marina di Massa; a trip to Malaspina Castle and to Piazza Aranci with its imposing Ducale Palace are well worth your time.
There are many typical restaurants along the streets of the city centre where you can taste the traditional dishes of Massa cuisine: tordelli in meat sauce, taglierini with beans, marinated codfish, rabbit alla cacciatore, cockerel with beards – all of which accompanied by the intense Vermentino grape-based Candia wines from the Apuan Hills.
Lastly, if you love to indulge, don’t forget to try the rice cake.
The Apuan Alps.
The Majestic Apuan Alps stand behind the city and the sea. This range consists of numerous peaks, the tallest of which is Mount Pisanino (1,946 meters above sea level), and offers to hikers and mountain excursionists many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors: from the marvellous CAI Italian Alpine Club paths with its various panoramic views, to the mountain trails that can be taken by expert hikers (Mount Forato, Mount Contrario or Mount Sella).
Also worth to be noticed are two locations of incomparable beauty: the Antro del Corchia – Italy’s largest underground karst system located in the hinterlands of Versilia – and the Grotta del Vento (Cave of the Wind) located below Mount Pania in Garfagnana, one of the most important tourist caves in Europe.
Lunigiana and Garfagnana are two adjoining zones – the first stretches through the province of Massa Carrara while the second is found in the province of Lucca– extraordinarily beautiful and filled with medieval villages and majestic castles.
Events.
Camping Luna, for your stay in Tuscany, offers scheduled events with Cento notti d’estate (Hundred Summer Nights), the Lunatica Festival, the Medieval Market of Filetto and the Spino Fiorito.
